Medicare Supplement

Freedom to choose your doctors. Predictable costs.

Medicare Supplement plans (sometimes called Medigap) work alongside Original Medicare, paying most of the deductibles and coinsurance Medicare leaves behind — with no networks and no referrals.

How it works

Medicare Supplement fills the gaps

Original Medicare pays roughly 80% of approved medical costs, with no annual limit on your 20%. A Medicare Supplement plan picks up most or all of that remainder. You keep Original Medicare as your primary coverage and can see any provider in the country that accepts Medicare — no networks, no referrals.

Medicare Supplement plans are standardized by letter (Plan G, Plan N, and others). A Plan G from one carrier has the same benefits as a Plan G from another — so we shop the same coverage across carriers for the best premium and rate history. You'll typically pair a Medicare Supplement plan with a stand-alone Part D drug plan.

Popular plansThe short version
Plan GThe most comprehensive option for new enrollees — after the Part B deductible, most approved costs are covered.
Plan NLower premium in exchange for small copays for some office and ER visits.
High-Deductible GVery low premium; full Plan G benefits kick in after an annual deductible.

Timing tip

Your six-month Medicare Supplement Open Enrollment Period starts when you're 65+ and enrolled in Part B. During this window you can buy any plan without health questions. After it closes, medical underwriting may apply in most states — so timing this decision matters.

Fit check

Is Medicare Supplement right for you?

Medicare Supplement tends to fit people who…

  • Travel or live in multiple states during the year
  • Flexibility to see any doctor who accepts Medicare
  • Prefer a fixed premium over unpredictable copays
  • Are managing conditions that mean frequent care

Worth weighing…

  • Monthly premiums are higher than most Advantage plans
  • Dental, vision, and hearing are generally not included
  • You'll add a separate Part D plan for prescriptions
  • Premiums can increase over time — carrier rate history matters
