Medicare Advantage — Part C

One plan. One card. One out-of-pocket cap.

Medicare Advantage plans bundle your hospital, medical, and usually drug coverage into a single private plan — often with dental, vision, and hearing benefits Original Medicare doesn't offer.

How it works

Advantage in a nutshell

When you join a Medicare Advantage plan, you still have Medicare — you simply receive your Part A and Part B benefits through a private plan instead of the government paying providers directly. Plans must cover everything Original Medicare covers, and most add prescription drug coverage plus extra benefits.

  • Annual out-of-pocket maximum — a built-in ceiling Original Medicare alone doesn't have.
  • Low or $0 plan premiums are common (you still pay your Part B premium).
  • Networks: HMO plans keep you in network; PPO plans cover out-of-network care at higher cost.
  • Extras often include dental, vision, hearing, fitness memberships, and OTC allowances.

A good fit if you…

  • Want the lowest monthly premium
  • Are comfortable using a network of doctors
  • Value bundled dental, vision, and hearing benefits
  • Like one card and one plan to manage

Look closely if you…

  • Split the year between two states
  • Have specialists you won't change
  • Prefer fixed, predictable costs over pay-as-you-go copays
Shop carefully

The five things we check on every Advantage plan

Your doctors

We verify your physicians and hospitals are in network — not "probably," but confirmed in the plan directory.

Your prescriptions

Every medication is run against the plan's formulary and preferred pharmacies to estimate your real annual drug cost.

The maximum

The out-of-pocket cap is your worst-case year. We compare it across plans, in and out of network.

The extras, honestly

Dental and vision allowances vary widely. We read the fine print so a flashy benefit doesn't hide a weak one.

Star ratings & stability

Medicare rates plans 1–5 stars annually. We factor in ratings and how the plan has changed year over year.
